Problem:

When using DOCIMGPRT you may see:

PC Command Error: 500 Command not understood

in the job log. If you display the FTP log (DSPPFM QTEMP/FTPLOG) you will see

500 Command not understood

after the command to print the TIF.

This could be caused by having too early a version of Office Integrator. In this particular case, it occurred when trying to use text annotation overlays, which requires certain minimum versions of the various products. See Using WebDocs iSeries Edition DOCIMGPRT Command to Print Images with Text Annotation Overlays.

However, another cause is that there could be an FTP server running on the PC. Office Integrator is basically an FTP server with special commands for our use. If Office Integrator is the server that is handling the requests from the System i, you will see the following at the beginning of the FTP log on the System i:

220 Welcome to iSeries Office Integrator

A different FTP server will say something else.

But in this case the we were actually connecting to the FTP server on a printer - the one we wanted the image printed on. The welcome response from the server was as follows:

220 WHSPRINTS IBM Infoprint 1585 FTP Server NS.NP.N118 ready.

Solution:

Be sure to connect to the right server. If the server says it cannot understand a command, it is probably the wrong server.

Fix and version #, if available, with update link.
