Configuring Outlook Express for use with WinSpool/400 Email Report Server

Listed below are the instructions for configuring the WinSpool/400 Email Report Server for use with Outlook Express:
1.) Install Internet Explorer 5.0 or above on the Email Report Server PC. This should automatically install the Outlook Express software to the PC.
2.) Start the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser after installation and go to the "Tool/Internet Options/Programs" tab and select "Outlook Express" for the E-mail program setting. After changing the setting, click OK to save the setting.
3.) Start the Outlook Express email program and go to the "Tools/Accounts/Mail" tab and select the "Add" button to create new email account settings. If there is already an email account configured, you can simply highlight the entry and click "Properties" to review the settings.
4.) On the Properties screen, enter the following information for each tab. Your configuration may require more information than this, but most likely the settings listed below will allow mail to be delivered from Outlook Express.
General Tab
- Settings Name - RJS (or whatever you want to call it.) - User Name - Name of the person mail will bounce back to if undeliverable. - Email address - The name of the person mail will bounce back to if undeliverable. - Reply address - The name of the person mail will bounce back to if undeliverable.
Servers Tab
- Incoming mail - Enter the name of your POP3 server host or IP address or something bogus if you are not using a POP3 server to retreive email messages. **Note: For the Email Report Server this setting is not used. - Outgoing mail - Enter the name of your SMTP server host or IP address. All email messages will be forwarded to this SMTP server for delivery.
Connection

After entering the mail account settings, click the OK button to save the properties. Click the Close button to close the "Internet Properties" screen.
5.) From the main Outlook Express window go to the "Tools/Options/Send" tab and verify the following settings:
- Save copy of sent messages in the 'Sent Items' folder - This setting is enabled by default and will save a copy of each mail sent into the Outlook Express 'Sent' folder. You may want to disable this setting if mail volumes are quite high, although it is good to keep this setting enabled as an audit trail.
- Send messages immediately - This setting is enabled by default and will send each outgoing message automatically as it is queued.
Enabling the Ability to use Outlook Express in WinSpool/400 Email Report Server
Listed below are the instructions for rnabling the use of Outlook Express for the WinSpool/400 Email Report Server software:
1.) Start the WinSpool/400 Email Report Server and go to the "File/Settings" scrren.
2.) Make sure all of the following settings are unchecked:
- Use SMTP Email server - Unchecked - Use VIM32 Email - Unchecked - Use Lotus Notes OLE Email - Unchecked
3.) Click OK to save the settings and then exit and restart the WinSpool/400 Email Report Server program.
4.) All email messages from the Email Report Server will now be sent via Outlook Express. The Email Report Server simply queues each mail within Outlook Express and Outlook Express is responsible for the actual mail relaying and delivery.
- Note - All outgoing email messages will have the "From Address" automatically set based on the "Email address" configured within Outlook Express.
