Problem:
Error occurred while attempting to copy file could not locate file E:\DIW\VB2OLECF.DL_
User attempted to install DataImport on a Windows NT network and performed the following steps: 1. They ran the initial setup and installed the DataImport to the C:\DIW directory on the LAN server. 2. After installing the software to the C:\DIW directory on the Windows NT LAN server they shared the C:\DIW directory and gave the share a name of DIW and a drive letter of E: 3. When attempting to install the DataImport software to a workstation for shared LAN use, the user used the following UNC path name to attempt to install the DataImport software:
\\SERVER\DIW\SETUP.EXE
4. When the installation was running the user received an error saying: Errors occurred while attempting to copy file E:\DIW\VB2OLECF.DL_ 5. When attempting to install the DataImport software to a workstation for shared LAN use, the user then used the following path name to attempt to install the DataImport software: E:\SETUP.EXE Notice that the DIW directory name was omitted here because the DIW drive share was mapped to the C:\DIW directory on the server, thus making E:\ the path to the DataImport directory on the LAN. DataImport always has to reside in a directory named DIW on the network drive. 6. When the installation was running the user still received an error saying: Errors occurred while attempting to copy file E:\DIW\VB2OLECF.DL_
Solution:
1. When attempting to initially install the DataImport LAN version to the network server, the software must be installed via a shared driver letter such as E: to the network server from a network PC workstation instead of installing from the network Server PC to a local drive on the same server PC. The E: drive must also be read/write capable. 2. After installing to the network server, the DataImport workstation user setup can be run from the shared network drive letter using the following setup command: E:\DIW\SETUP.EXE This should prevent the file copy error when installing DataImport for shared LAN access. Note: This example assumes there is a read/write capable E: drive available on the Windows NT network server. Any drive letter will work, but we use E: for this example.
