Problem:
Does DataImport support the Microsoft Excel 97 spreadsheet format?

Solution:
No it doesn't. If you need to create output files with Datamport that need to read more than the 16000 record in the MS Excel 95 format, you must use one of the following output formats: CSV, Dbase or MS Access These are the formats to use with VERY LARGE files. MS Excel 97 will open up to 65536 records from any of these file types.
