How to set up WinSpool/400 Batch Report Server to use a Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Database
From Support
The following instructions will enable the WinSpool/400 Batch Report Server software to use a Microsoft SQL Server based report index table accessed by ODBC.
Installing Windows Common Controls Version 6.0 - (Required) 1.) Download and install the Version 6.0 Windows Common Control OCX Files from our web site: http://downloads.rjssoftware.com/FILES/ocx/v6ocxupd.exe.
Installing and Starting MS Data Engine SQL Server Compatible Database 1.) Determine if you have an SQL Server 7.0 database server installed at your location. You may have to check with your network administrator. If not, you can download the Microsoft Data Engine from the following web link and run the automatic installation process. The automatic installation process installs the MS SQL Server database server in the C:\MSSQL7 directory on your PC. http://downloads.rjssoftware.com/FILES/msde10.exe (~21megabytes)
- Note: If you are going to install the Microsoft Data Engine for use with the Web Report Server, the Microsoft Data Engine software should be installed on the same PC as the Web Report Server software.
2.) Start the SQL Server Service Manager program by selecting "Start/Program Files/MSDE/Service Manager".
3.) Select "MSSQLServer" from the "Services" field in the service manager pulldown and press the Green "Start/continue" button to start the Microsoft SQL Server Database Engine
Installing Microsoft Data Access Components 2.6 Update
1.) Download and install the latest Microsoft Data Access Components update on the Batch Report Server PC.
http://downloads.rjssoftware.com/FILES/mdac_typ.exe (~6 megabytes)
Installing Batch Report Server Updates
1.) Download and install WinSpool/400 Batch Report Server V2.0.72 and above from the following link:
http://downloads.rjssoftware.com/FILES/rjsbchup.exe
2.) Download and install WinSpool/400 Batch Report Server SQL Setup Scripts from the following link: http://downloads.rjssoftware.com/FILES/ws_bch/brssqlsetup.exe
Creating an ODBC Data Source for the Batch Report Server
1.) See the following KB article: Creating an ODBC Data Source for Batch Report Server and Web Report Server
Setting Up Batch Report Server to use Microsoft SQL Server Database Engine
1.) Start the Batch Report Server program by selecting "Start/Program Files/WinSpool Batch Report Server/Batch Report Server" from the windows desktop.
2.) Exit the program after startup completes. This will add all the appropriate INI settings to the Batch Report Server settings INI file.
3.) Select "Start/Run" and type C:\WSPBCH32\WSPBCH32.INI and click OK. Windows notepad will launch and the Batch Report Server INI settings will be displayed.
4.) Find the entry at the bottom of the INI file that says: ODBCSettings=0. Check the setting to ODBCSettings=1 . Exit notepad and save the INI settings.
5.) Re-start the Batch Report Server program via "Start/Program Files/WinSpool Batch Report Server/Batch Report Server".
6.) Go to the "File/Settings/SQL Server" tab.
7.) Click the "SQL Setup' button and walk through each option to create the SQL Server database via the WSPINDEX ODBC Data Source. Select "Yes" for each option and "Cancel" if any problems occur.
8.) Check the "Enable SQL Server Report Archive Catalog" setting to enable writing report archive catalog entries to the SQL server database.
9.) Run the Batch Report Server as usual. Catalog entries will now be written to the MS Access database as well as the SQL Server report index table.
Setting Up Web Report Server to use Microsoft SQL Server Database Engine 1.) You will need to configure the Web Report Server for accessing the SQL Server report index database. See the KB article " - Enabling WinSpool/400 Web Report Server to use SQL Server" for instructions on configuring the Web Report Server to access the new SQL Server report index database.
