Password Protection During Print Server Report Conversion (Also will occur during Merge Process in Text Layer Designer)

The questions about password protecting report conversions has surfaced many times. Many times, people want a way to password protect the ability to print specific forms. For example: a check or a run of checks.

NOTE: You need to make sure that your WinSpool/400 Electronic Forms Package has the following components at the following versions or above:

NOTE: If you make any changes to your forms, you will need to use the following procedure again in order to recreate your password protected template using the modified form. Make sure that you have completed all the changes on your FormDocs Form Template before continuing.

In order to add password protection when a report is being converted you will need to use the following steps:

Step 1: Open Form

Open the desired FormDocs Form Template in the FormDocs Designer.

Step 2: Preview in Filler

Select File > Preview in Filler from the main menu at the top of the window. A new window will open called "FormDocs Filler".

Step 3: Add Protection

In the new FormDocs Filler window, select Tools > Protection from the main menu.

Step 4: Enter password

You will now be prompted for a password. Enter your desired password into the field labeled "Password to Open." Click "OK."

DO NOT ENTER A PASSWORD INTO THE FIELD LABELED "PASSWORD TO MODIFY." IF YOU DO, YOUR FORM WILL NOT WORK!

Step 5: Confirm password

Retype your password to confirm it. Click "OK."

Step 6: Save

Select File > Save from the main menu. Be sure to save this new FDD file with the same file name and into the same directory as your original FormDocs Form Template.

NOTE: By default, FormDocs Form Templates are located at "C:\Program Files\FormDocs\Templates".

From this point on, when you attempt to merge a report, you will be prompted for your password:
