VIM Error 5 Occurred while Opening Lotus Notes Mail Session

Problem:

In this scenario the user had multiple NOTES.INI files on a Windows NT 4.0 PC. The NOTES.INI file in the WINNTdirectory had no MailFile entry so I believe this is what was giving us the error. The user uses roaming Notes user profiles which is why they had multiple versions of the NOTES.INI file on the PC.

Solution:

The user renamed the NOTES.INI in the WINNT directory to NOTES.SAV and then copied the NOTES.INI file from their profile directory to the WINNT directory. This version of the NOTES.INI file has a valid MailFile entry. After copying the NOTES.INI file, the user was able to log into the Lotus Notes mail system using the RJS Software Systems products.
